We are trying to build a web application that will be hosted on windows 2008 server.  The applicatoin will contain documents(pdf,doc,docx etc) in a folder under the same Application root.

1. Not exactly sure about ASP.NET hosting, but I've been successfully using Windows Search 4.0 in a self-hosted WCF service (running under the NetworkService account).

2. I've tested XP, 7 and Server 2008R2 so far and don't see a reason why it shouldn't be OK anywhere where WS 4.0 can be installed.
