We have a SharePoint application which assigns tasks to an SP group,  the members of this group are then sent an email to advise them of the Task assignment.  Upon opening the email the individual can click on 'Open this Task' and they will be taken to a form which opens within IE and displays the details of the Task along with a button/link that allows them to "Claim" to Task as their own.

At least this is how it should work and how it appears to work for most people.  However,  we have at least one user that when they click on 'Open the Task' the Task Form opens outside of IE and the "Claim" button/link is not visible.

Does the Task form display normally except the "Claim" button? What is the default browser of this user? Can he access the SP site normally?

Try to let this user test with another machine. Maybe this issue is related to his computer settings.
