I want to retrive the resolution to do something when my wp7 app runs on wp8 machine, but wp7 sdk doesn't have API like Application.Current.Host.Content.ScaleFactor to  check the resolution.

If you don't rebuild your application for WP8, then you won't be able to read the resolution and your application will scale for the WP8 devices.  (The automatic scaling may result in the application having a "dead" space where you won't be able to add any user controls if the screen ratio is different than on the WP7 phones.)
