Hi all,

Im a newby network engineer, one of our server is sometimes very slow.
So i tried this tool but its very difficult to understand what and how it works.
Anyone can kick me in the right direction? what kind of settings i must edit so i can monitor why my server(network ) is slow?

Network Monitor is like a tool like a hammer.  I can teach you how to swing it and hammer nails, however this does not tell you how to build a house or make furniture.  So your question has two levels to it.  I can tell you how to get a capture and in general how to filter items to narrow down what you want to see.  I can show you how things like color filters, reassemble, and convesrations work.  All of that is pretty straight forward and the videos on http://blogs.technet.com/netmon/archive/2008/07/11/nm3-tv-video-help-for-using-nm3.aspx and the blog itself might be a good place to start for that kind of information.

For the second level of your problem, it depends on what type of slow down we are talking about.  For that you'll want to give more specifics.  And while I can't garuntee I can help directly, with more info there might be some direction I or others can give you.

Can you give specifics on the type of slow down we are talking about?  Is this related to web traffic, network file traffic, video traffic, or something else? 

Are there specific circumstances when the server is slow (a certain time or specific situation)?

Do you know that the slow down is network specific, or might a slow server be at fault? (A network trace might also be able to narrow this down for us).

Hopefully with this as a start we can get some insight as to what is happening.
