I'm currently evaluating Azure DSC in scenario where I would use Azure DSC in one "management" tenant to manage VMs across multiple others. I understand I'd pay for log analytics space used, but how about Azure Automation DSC node costs? One node is ~$5 for non-Azure (aside from free 5) , but this is going to be Azure VM in the end, but onboarded in the same way as "on-premises" VM, or with DSC extension. Will Azure Automation detect that it's Azure VM? Does the same apply to Inventory and Change management ?

Hi Alex, based on my research, you will need to onboard the VMs through the Azure Portal for the VMs to be recognized and charged as Azure VMs. If you decide to onboard manually or outside the Azure Portal, even if it is an Azure VM, it will be billed as a Non-Azure machine. The same applies to DSC nodes.
