Hello,
I have setup a MOSS server farm in our corporate internal network. It works well. Now I also install a new MOSS in a server within one workgroup in DMZ and try to connect this instance to the existing server farm in the corporate internal network. Unfortunately, it does not works.
When I lauch the 'SharePoint Products and Technologies Configuration Wizard', select 'Yes, I want to connect to an existing farm', and enter the configuration database server in internal network, then click 'Retrieve database names'. I get the error message: 'Failed to connect to the database server. Ensure the database server exists, is a Sql server, and that you have the appropriate permissions to access the server.'
And I examine the log:
An exception of type System.Data.SqlClient.SqlException was thrown. Additional exception information: Login failed for user ''. The user is not associated with a trusted SQL Server connection.
I think this errer might be reasonable because the DMZ server is not in the corportate domain. It certainly fails to connect to the sql server with Integrated Windows Authentcation.
But I find it is possible to seperate the MOSS farm server in DMZ and internal zone from the official document: http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc263513.aspx#section7 (Split back-to-back topology)
So I'm getting a misunderstanding or missing some prerequisite ?
