Had a strange issue reported today. People picker is not finding AD groups in some web applications.

We have an Internet facing SharePoint farm with 6 web applications. People Picker will not find AD groups in 4 of the 6. If I use IE on the WFE it works on all them. I'm completely baffled. It has been working fine for almost two years. Any thoughts will be appreciated.

The application pool account should be a domain user. Ensure if anyone has changed the application pool account. Go to Central Administrator > Security > Configure Service Account > Select the application pool and check the account for it.
