When I add a sharepoint list filter web part, it doesn't show on my page. Please help out as I have no idea why it disappears.

Are you able to see the web part in web part maintenance page? For this put "?contents=1" after the end of the url, you will see all the web parts on that site. Are you able to see web part there. Check there whether webpart is closed or open.
