I need a choices list that has 2 columns.  First column is ID (numerical) and second is Text. The ID column will be used for sorting my list because I don't want it sorted alphabetically.

At first I had a lookup column and it was working well until I wanted to use that info on another list I created with a lookup column. I learned a lookup column cannot link to another lookup column.

Employe No, Rank (lookup to List Ranks), Surname, Inits

I used a lookup Employe No in order to create a list from the Main list 1.  By selecting a Employe No, it populates the rank, Surname and Inits so I don't have to retype this info.  Because I used a lookup column in list 1 for Rank, the Rank column isn't listed in the choice for List 2.

So on List 1, I changed the column Rank for a Choice List instead of Lookup.  It works. I can use that info on another list now.  My problem now is I can't sort List 1 by Rank Id anymore because it's only 1 column in the choice list.

Here is a workaround for you.
    1. The rank column in list 1 will still have to be a lookup type column so that list 1 could be sorted by rank id. Then in list 1 add a column called hiddenrank (you can name it whatever possible as you like) which has the same value as the rank column. Below is a screenshot when creating a new list item for list 1.
