We are evaluating whether Azure would be an option for us to move to instead of a server upgrade. I have been playing in the portal and have created and instance. We ran the Service Tier/Performance Level tool on our existing production db at 3 different times of the day and got 3 different recommendations for a service tier (S0, S6, and P11). Does this mean I need to always have my instance configured on a P11 at all times or can I set windows of time where my managed instance is at different level through out the day. If I have to sit at P11 (which is priced at a whopping $8500/mth) all the time then this might not be a solution for us. Or do we set it to P11 and it only bills us for the minutes we actually run at P11 and then bills us for our lower usage times at a lower rate automatically. Thanks for the helping to clarify for this Azure newbie how this maze works!
