Our search engine is displaying some documents with its Word property title rather than displaying the filename or SP title a user has given it.

I've removed MetadataExtractorTitle from the crawled properties but its still displaying the word properties title.  The only thing that seems to resolve this is manually editing the documents properties which I obviously don't want to do.

I had thought about removing the Office:2 managed property from the search scheme title but I'm not too sure what if any side effects this may have overall. Is this ok today?

Please try to move the ows_Title crawled property to the top and the MetadataExtractorTitle crawled property right to the bottom of the list of crawled property mappings for the Title managed property. Then run a full crawl for Local SharePoint Sites, test whether this scenario occurs.
