I have an azure web app for which I have set up a custom domain and bound an SSL certificate to the domain. This has been working for years. At the end of July I updated the certificate and again, all was fine. At what I am guessing is about midnight GMT on 9/1/18 (don't know if that is relevant, but seems like suspiciously precise date), browser clients started reporting my site as insecure.
Looking into this further, browsers are showing that my site is reporting the *azurewebsites.net certificate rather than the certificate for my domain.
In the azure portal, it is showing that my custom domain bound to my certificate, and it is reporting that my certificate is valid.
I tried removing and restoring the bindings for the certificate, and all that did was change the IP address for the app service. Still getting the error from the browsers.
I also tried checking the SSL Only box. This lead to the following warning:
Some custom hostnames for your app are missing SSL bindings. When HTTPS Only is enabled clients accessing your app on those custom hostnames will see security warnings. To fix this add the missing SSL bindings or remove the custom hostnames.
Which seems to indicate that there may be something going on that I don't understand. There are two custom domain names (the root and the www). Both are reported as being bound to IP SSL. Does this indicate some bad state that I can't see? Or am I not looking in the right place.
And just to repeat - this has been working for years. The last change I made to this configuration before the error cropped up was on 7/29/18 and the error started happening on the evening of 8/31/18 PDT (possibly right about 12am 9/1/18 GMT).
What else can I try?
