In my farm some large pdf's ~40MB - 50MB are being shredded to 64KB files to an RBS endpoint and others that are being shredded to 1024KB files to the same RBS endpoint, SharePoint does this automatically. The files that have the larger 1MB blobs download in seconds while the files with the 64KB blobs are downloading substantially slower. (The SAN is clearly slower at reading lots of 64KB files in the directory structure created from RBS).

I know I would get hit with more storage being utilized for file versioning but wondering if any other performance issues to consider from making this type of change?
