am programatically taking the sql server 2008 database backup .. when i select the root folder like C:\ or E:\ like that am getting the error message is " Backup failed for server ''Server\SQlExpress''"... Server\SQlExpress is the server name. suppose i select the E:\newfolder, i will getting the backup without any error.. may i know whats the problem..

Bad choice of directory indeed. With Window 7, most of the directories are protected for the users, power users, by default. This is not the case for XP and earlier versions of Windows, but this is something you would want to protect if you understood the value of it. Imagine you use your computer as a multi-user system. Would you like if your users could write their file right to the top level of the system volume? I don''t think so.

You just need to reserve right directory for backup. You can create some directory on the disk of your choice and give it appropriate permission.
