I doubt it very much, but you could look at a few setup files in a hex editor and see if they have some sort of common signature.

I believe you cannot. What is the difference between a ''setup application'' and a ''standard one''?
You may possibly find that some applications are NOT setup ones, but proving the opposite (for any setup app) looks impossible to me.
