I am not a developer, coder or programmer. I really don''t belong here, but I have a CLSID question that dogs me. Without mentioning the software by name I''ll just say that a popular anti-virus program claims the following key:HKCR_{80b8c23c-16e0-4cd8-bbc3-cecec9a78b79} provides all the functionality of their product. How can this be?

The company is pretty tight lipped about it based on what I''ve seen. All kinds of system cleaners say it''s a useless needs to go. Some even imply that it''s a bug of some kind. I thought this might be the place to get a programmers perspective.

I don''t know for sure this is a C++ issue. Hope the tag isn''t misleading. My web searching brings up a lot of C++ related to CLSID.

What can an empty key do?
