I have created a simple application and am publishing it for installation from a CD.

Where do I specify what folder the program should install in on the end-user''s computer -- for example, "C:\Program Files\GreatStuff\GS1" ?

Most installers I have seen for other programs provide a default location, but give the user the option of changing it. But when I install my VB2005 program, no options appear and I can''t even figure out where it has put the files.

Hey Jim, could you share how it is that you''ve tagged your post as Linux when you say you''re deploying with VB2005 ( which runs under windows ) ? If you''re using clickonce, then you can''t specify the location, and it doesn''t go in program files where you expect. Otherwise, I''d expect you would be able to do exactly what you want, and be asked where you want the files, that''s always been my experience with installers, no matter what I used.

My sincerest apologies -- I landed inside codeproject from a Google search, saw what I thought was relevant subject matter, and posted my query. I didn''t realize I was not in a VB, or even Windows, area.

Nonetheless, thank you for your response. I am on my way to discovering the "Setup Wizard", which seems to be the solution to the problem.

Jim, you''re in the quick questions area. Which is for anything, which is why you were prompted to tag your question to indicate what platform it was for. I believe you ignored that part of the form and got the default, which is C++, Linux ( not because we have anything to do with linux, I suspect the site authors provided an unlikely example to show the sort of thing required, and still prompt people to set it correctly ).

Sounds like you''re on the right track tho. I mostly replied to say that you should not feel you''re in the wrong place. Ask all your VB questions here, just tag them as VB.NET, so that people who filter questions can find them.
