Could some one help me understand which option is better and why ?

We will be doing some changes but it is highly unlikely that we will succedd with imports in first few runs. Everytime we test our process we want to restore DB back to starting point.

Both serve the same purpose pretty much, the only difference being a snapshot would take a copy of the server as a whole (incl. the OS) and the databases as they exist at the time of the snapshot.  A database backup/restore is specific to one or more databases and do not consider the server as a whole.  I would probably time each one and go with the one which completes the quickest.
