User gets "cannot download the information you requested" error when opening Word documents from SharePoint 2010 as read only. User is able to check out documents for editing fine. Issue only happens with word documents. 

SharePoint 2010, Office 365 (Word 2016), SharePoint accessed through IE11

Looking for thoughts and suggestions. All searches so far have been no help.

I cannot reproduce your issue in my environment, please follow the things below to troubleshoot:

1. Whether all the Word documents in the library have this issue? Whether it happened in other libraries?

Try to save the document in the local drive and delete it, reupload it to the library, check if the issue exists.

2. In the IE->Tools->Internet Options->Security tab->add the SharePoint site to Trusted site.

3. Try to click F12->Emulation->select IE 10 for document mode.
