Background: I have live smooth streaming set up using IIS Media Services 4.0, IIS 7, W2K8 R2 SP1. I have set SSL binding to the site where my smooth streaming publishing point is located and I have installed a certicate. I have used Sam Zhang's Blog on "How to authenticate ONLY the encoder streams but not the clients for live smooth streaming" and all is well, except I cannot connect to the publishing point using https - only http. I have tried qualifying the port - servername:port too, but I am unable to connect using ssl. I do not want to pass the username and password used by the encoder via clear text (Basic authentication); however, I cannot connect unless I use the http protocol. Additionally, I have tried to force SSL on the site, but that does not help either.

I have solved this problem myself by using Digest Authentication instead of Basic Authentication.
