I'm aware the SharePoint framework isn't yet available for on-premise SharePoint installs (and will probably be 2016 only), but all indications since it was announced is it's a case of "when" not "if".

When it does get released, will it still require the separate add-in domain setup? Or will you be able to just deploy .spapp files to your app catalog without that requirement?

Hi,

Seems there is no official documents about this currently, but based on the thread below, SharePoint Framework is just a new and improved customization option, so I think this doesn’t impact/replace SharePoint Add-in.

So, if you want to use SharePoint add-in on-premise, you do need to configure the separate add-in domain.
