On all our Windows 7 SP1 64 bits machines, with Project 2010 SP1 32 bits, it was possible to export a project to XML without any issue (the file created really had an XML structure), until I guess one day a KB broke everything. Now what happens is that the export SEEMS to work (and xml file is created) but this file is not a real XML file, but a simple txt file, with the contents of the project (all the tasks, etc) but not the slightest XML structure. I'm pretty sure it's a KB that broke it since : 1) On a vmware machine (with the same master BUT no KB at all) everything still works. 2) On a newly re-masteurized PC everything works fine... until the tens of KB suddenly arrives thanks to WSUS... and after that it's not working anymore. Of course I've tried to remove the KB related to Project 2010 but that doesn't solve the issue. Would someone know which KB would be known to do some colateral damages in the "XML exporting module" of Project 2010 (XML mapping ?).

I run the exact same environment you describe and do not have this problem. Further, after three years in-market, you are the first to report this as far as I know. So, I am going to go out on a limb and suggest that there is something else in your environment causing this problem. If it is a Microsoft update, then it is unlikely one related to Project.
