I am trying to develop a Windows service which has access to the Kinect for speech recognition and gestures. When I start the service, it does find the sensor, but I get an error when trying access the audio source, the skeleton stream or when I try to start the sensor.

I guess this is because a Windows service doesn't have access to external devices, so I would like to know if there is a way to use the Kinect from a service.

My server is running Windows 2008 R2. I know this is not supported, but the Kinect works fine when accessing it from a Windows application directly. And running the service in Interactive Mode isn't possible.

From session 0, there is no guarantee the drivers get loaded for Kinect and therefore,not supported. If you have an active logged in user and lock the screen, you may be able to get it to work.
