I realise this might not be the right place for this question though I thought people here might know. No probs if this needs to be moved or removed.

I find myself working in Visual Studio more and more lately for development, SSDT BI projects and C# development, and I seem to spend some of my development time waiting, which is what I am aim to reduce. 

All development is done on the PC, meaning while I am on a network of 1 Windows 10 PC/1 WES2012 Server, all source and database local on the PC.

Initial thought is hardware upgrade. 

Current system:

• i5-2500
• 8gb ram
• Asus P8H61 - M/LEUSB3
• OS on SSD, Dev Files on different SSD

My question is, if I spend say £400 ($550) to upgrade to

• i5-7600 or I7 7700 for >£100 ($140)
• 16gb ram or 8gb for <£70 ($100)
• ASUS Prime B250M-A

Would I see a significant difference in speed in working in Visual Studio. I am an independent consultant so money is an issue. Looking to make things better but realise I can't afford to make them ideal :-)

With Visual Studio the most time is spent with typing and mouse moving and thinking. 

But why do you not look in resource monitor where your bottle necks are?

Visual Studio can do many things and asking here if it goes faster is the same as asking if you can go faster with a Ferrari then a Fiat. The answer is then clear.

However, if you always go from Piccadilly Circus to Trafalgar square in London, the Fiat probably wins.
