My first post, hope it's a good 'un. I teach math at an alternative school and blew most of last year's savings on a bank of Win 7 64-bit AMD Phenom II quad-core computers with Wacom digitizing tablets, webcams, and Office 2010 in order to make math class a li'l more interesting. Those who feel comfortable talk into the webcam's mic and describe their solution process. When it works, it works wonderfully! The kids enjoy the process and we end up with a nice video record of how to solve the problem, made while the info is still fresh in their minds. Waaaayyyy better than worksheets.

The new Expression 4 Encoder is giving me fits. Sometimes I get an output file that is correctly formatted as a WMV file, sometimes I don't. I have checked everything I can think of and cannot understand why Encoder 4 doesn't output a WMV file consistently, even when WMV is selected as the output type.

What gives? Using the same machine and not changing a single setting, I got a correctly encoded file early in the day and more of this weird stuff later on. Whether I send the screen capture straight to Encoder 4 from the Screen Capture Manager or import into Encoder 4 makes no difference - same problems. I tried re-installing the software and no change, plus I have this problem on another computer in my room. Random....
