I'm looking for best options for the below business scenario:

There is an existing "Members" contact list on Excel spreadsheet which basically keeps track of all committees and their members. Each committee is on a different tab in the same Excel doc. The fields pretty much consist of normal contact fields like Name, Email, Phone etc. This method presents inefficiencies at the moment because it is a document and the details need to be updated both on the document as well as various pages on our existing 2013 SharePoint site. 

We are looking to create a "master" list that would reside on SharePoint (like a contact list) and display different views of committees on pages. This would work out if I just added an extra column for Committees and created different views based on that.

However the issue with ONE master list is that some members could be a part of several committees. To top that, there is a column for the "Role" that each member plays in a committee. They could be a member in one and a designee to another member in another Committee. 

So essentially, Person A - Plays the Role "Member" in Committee "Microsoft" and Role "Designee" in Committee "Apple". I wouldn't want to create duplicate rows since it is still Person A.

What would be the best way to setup a list in such a situation?

Hi,

You can use a multiple-lines of text field or a checkboxes column to store all Committees and their roles for the user.

For example, create a multiple-lines of text field named "Committee_Role". Tell users to enter the committee and role with "Committee_Role" format.


After that, you don’t need to create multiple rows for a single user. And, you still can create views based on the committee.
