I'm trying to disable Open Type formatting in Word 2010, to no avail. For those who are not familiar with the subject, Open Type fonts in general contain features that can be applied automatically, or at the user discretion, to replace a sequence of characters typed by the user, by a specific glyph. For instance, the font Calibri,  Cambria, Times New Roman and Arial, have a feature (I don't know the tag for this specific feature) that automatically replaces the text generated by pressing the keys '1', '/', '2' and space, (which without Open Type would print as "1/2 "), by the glyph corresponding to the Unicode character U+00BD VULGAR FRACTION ONE HALF, ½.

The conversion of 1/2 to ½ is not a product of Word's implementation of Open Type Font Formatting. It is controlled via Autoformatting. See: File|Options|Proofing>AutoCorrect Options>AutoFormat As You Type.
