I am using SPD to create a custom 2013 workflow.  I am having issues getting my logic to work.  The WF starts when a user fills out a list.  A task is assigned to approve or reject the request (filled out from the list) conductions are set if rejected the request goes back to the user.  The user either makes the changes which routs the WF back to the start process (first task assigned) or rejects the task which ends the workflow.  If the task is approved it moves to the next person in line which gets a task assigned to them to approve or reject  the task.  The process continues until the final stage when the last approver (task assigned) is approved or the user (the one who filled out the list) rejects the changes from any of the approvers that rejected their tasks.

Everything up to this point works.  I have a requirement to add backups to each of the approvers.  The requirement is that if the current task is not approved or rejected  (the person assigned did nothing) for 3 days to assign a task to their backup. At this point either the backup or the original tasker can approval  the task. This process will happen for 4 different stages. There are four approvers that get assigned a task and each require a backup approver which get a task assigned to them after 3 days of their person they are backing up has did nothing  with their task.
