I'm trying to determine exactly which account is associated with the Ougoing Email used for alert notifications.

Reading articles on setting up the Outgoing Email Settings, it says that whatever is listed in Central Admin under System Settings, is the name that will be displayed in emails received from the System. However, when I queried that address with our IT they said it didn't exist in our Active Directory despite emails being received from it.
