We have a workflow that is assigning tasks when a document is ready for review. The workflow is fine and the tasks are working. The issue we are encountering is that when they open the word document to make changes once the workflow has been started, they cannot use the Track Changes functionality in Word. Is that due to a task being assigned and not wanting the document to change while in review? I need to find the concrete answer for my end users so we can determine how to move forward.

Hi,

This is by design. I have done a test in my environment and reproduced your issue. I cannot use the Track Changes functionality in Word when the task workflow is started. 

When a task is assigned, it does not allow this document to be changed. The document is read-only when in review. 

As a workaround, you can check out this document in library and then open it in Word. This time, the Track Changes functionality works. (Remember to close your Word and open it after you check out the file.)
