Having had problems with Windows Installer refusing to work for a long time, I recently reinstalled my original Windows XP Home version (Service Pack 1). This has corrected the problem I had with Installer, but I am now unable to upgrade to either SP2 or SP3.

My Setupapi.log file consistently indicates that each upgrade installation fails when attempting to access:
HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Internet Settings\SO\MISC\SOFTDIST\MEDIUM\RegPoliciesPath

When I tried to access this registry key to change the permissions, I discovered that I do not have RegPoliciesPath in \SO\MISC\SOFTDIST\MEDIUM\

Is it possible to obtain the appropriate RegPoliciesPath, or do I need to try something else?
