We are in the process of migrating content from one SharePoint 2013 farm (Farm A) to another SharePoint 2013 farm (Farm B). Farm A has 2 hostname web applications and has an Office Web App farm binded to it and it works perfectly. Farm B has 1 web application with path based site collections. Farm B has no search service application running locally, instead it consumes the search service from Farm A and it works with no problem. It brings in content from both web applications from Farm A, as well as the local content on Farm B (Farm A crawls both  farms).

We moved our intranet from Farm A to Farm B. Its still on Farm A, but we changed our DNS so that it points to Farm B. After moving our intranet to Farm B, while using the search center we noticed the document previews were not working on the intranet content on Farm B. Oddly content on Farm A (not our intranet content), was visible through the search center on Farm B. We had not even configured Farm B with any office web app bindings, but the previews and online viewing of Office documents were visible. For our intranet content the office web app preview was not working (no option to view content online) because we hadn't set it up on the new farm (Farm B) yet.

We figured it was just a matter of configuring Farm B with the New-SPWOPIBinding to the office web app farm and once we set the Wopi bindings we would see the previews of the documents.

We ran the New-SPWOPIBinding and Set-SPWopiZone command. The commands had no error. Although now we had the option to preview content, it didnt work. We would get a correlation. We looked at ULS logs, IIS logs and event viewer, but couldnt find anything. Even with a correlation ID, we couldnt find it in the ULS logs, not sure why.

Does anyone know why the previews would work on Farm B, for content on Farm A, ? It doesnt make sense that even before any SPWopi commands were set up Farm B, we could see previews of content from Farm A, while searching from Farm B? Are the previews tied to search? Is this why it was visible?
