I have a recovery vault in GRS which due to expense I need to move. It contains a years worth of backups, I'm happy to trim these down and just keep monthly's until they expire.

I am aware that for whatever reason you cant switch an existing and used vault to LRS so I've created new LRS vault to target.

I cant switch the existing servers from the old GRS vault to the new LRS vault without deleting all the backup history, which is obviously completely unacceptable as it means I have no recovery options for a whole years worth of data.

Someone must have seen this and figured a way around it? All I cant think is to recovery a monthly backup of every machine into a new cheap storage account which loses me the ability to quickly recover individual files etc through the interface and is a crazy amount of additional work to get everything moved and means administrating a storage account alongside the normal backups.

As you already are aware of, as for now you wont be able to protect the servers in the new vault until you have deleted the data in the previous one.

In simular situations i have made restore of disks an kept them until new backups have been built up in the new vault.
