My website was hosted on one of the South Central Azure WebApps with CDN enabled. However during the Azure South Central US outage that lasted a day my website was still affected even tho I had CDN. I was wondering if the CDN doesn't really offer geo redundancy when there is an outage? What else can I do not to be affected when this kind of outage hits Azure.

Azure CDN is designed to assist with rapid delivery and performance, not necessarily geo-redundancy. If you need geo-redundancy with your CDN, you might want to consider using an Azure Traffic Manager on top of your CDN backed website.
