I believe that some Windows update caused SharePoint to no longer display List Tools / List correctly.  On a working computer, List view looks like the screen shot on the left.  On the bad computer that worked fine about two weeks ago it now looks like the screen shot on the right.  The data that shows up only shows up after mousing over it.  Was this due to a KB update?  Trying to post my screenshots but I guess I can't yet.

It hard to say that the issue is related to windows update.

But you can navigate to control panel->Uninstall a program->view installed updates->find the recently update for windows, Uninstall it and check whether the issue is solved.
