I need to develop security trimmed managed navigation using JS. I understand OOB managed navigation are security trimmed but I am creating my navigation using JS due to some requirement which is not supported OOB. Can anyone suggest how I can achieve this? There can be some external link as well.

One way i could think of is to have "Audience" as one of the property for each nodes. When rendering the navigation link, just verify whether current logged in user is part of the "Audience" specified and hide/show link based on that
