Hi there,
we are using SharePoint 2013 production environment for document storage purpose, with 8 million items in index and two dedicated search servers. All search components are distributed between these two servers.
We enabled continuous crawl for all the content sources and we have created a separate content source for a group of 5 site collections.
When we checked about crawl history for content sources, the continuous crawl completion duration shown as 24 hours and the crawled items are also not big number (say around 5000).
This search service application also causing heavy CPU and RAM usage on SQL server( dedicated sql server) all over the day (even during non business hours).
I wanted to understand how the continuous crawls are processed for every 15 minutes and why they are taking so long time for completion.
Please provide us any pointers.

We can use Crawl health reports to monitor performance and troubleshoot this issue.
Navigate to Central Administration > Application Management > Manage service applications > Search service application > Diagnostics > Crawl Health Reports.
