Hi there,
I am a final year student frm malaysia & need to do a project on image analysis for nutrition consumption. my lecturer want something to do with optical character recognition. I need help on how to produce the idea as i can''t think any related project according to my lecturer expectation. plz do help me.

We know nothing about you, your course, your lecturer, what is expected, what is not expected, anythign realy.
The best thing you can do is go to your lecturer and talk to him / her. They have a vested interest in you passing and I am sure they are used to this by now!

This is one of the major challenges of becoming a developer: given a problem, how do you convert that vague idea into a design. Think about the different elements of your project and what technologies you need to use to make it work. You have already mentioned OCR, so that is something you can start with - Google will find you lots of information. As to image analysis for nutrition consumption, I am afraid you will need to research that for yourself, it''s not a subject I have the first idea about: but again Google may be able to help you. But, in both cases remember to use Google as a tool to help you to develop your own solution, don''t just copy a load of code from the internet that you don''t understand and expect it to magically solve your problem.

I agree with what OriginalGriff said about going back to your lecturer. This here is probably not the right forum to collect ideas for your final year project.
Accidentally, I stumbled over an article here on CodeProject just a couple of days ago, which deals with a special branch of OCR and contour analysis. See this article here:
Contour Analysis for Image Recognition
I could imagine that extending that article and applying it in a practicle application would make a fine year project. It has to do with OCR and is particularly useful in the nutrition packaging industry. Just take a look for yourself and see whether this would work for you. Then talk it over with your lecturer.
