If you''re writing high performance image processing software, then I''d recommend that you learn OpenGL or DirectX and one of the GPU Technologies like OpenCL, DirectCompute, and or CUDA.

CUDA seems to be the top of the heap, but you''ll be restricted to NVidia (At least for now) technology for that one. There is a discussion of a C++ GPU standard, that we might assume that AMD would support.
