Hey! I am doing my final year engg!
For my project I have chosen to develop a mobile phone for deaf and dumb. Are there any sensors for detecting lip movement?
I found out electromyogram can do it perfectly , but the point is EMG is quite costly - so please do let me know if there is any other means for detecting lip movement and converting it into electrical signals. Thank you.

Here is my assessment: if you''re able to show a very limited success in this direction during a year of hard work and provide some low-quality speech recognition, you''re a genius. Another possible scenario is spending most of your lifetime with very limited results. This is a work for a decent collective of well-qualified researches, maybe whole organization lead by a really talented person already experienced in recognition and AI.

If you get some significant results I would be eager to hear about it. However, I would rather expect that if some results are obtained, they would be kept as a top secret during development.
