I have observed that sometimes the ASR VSS Provider service on VMWare VMs sometimes stopped and I have to manually restart it to ensure replication continues smoothly.
The technical article https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/azure/site-recovery/vmware-azure-troubleshoot-replication#initial-replication-issues-error-78169 here states that the below Windows Services should be running and the Azure Site Recovery VSS Provider service should be set to run automatically
- VSS service
- Azure Site Recovery VSS Provider
- VDS service
My question is there a reason that the ASR Site Recovery VSS Provider will suddenly stop and also should the remaining services such the VSS Services and VDS be set to run automatically?
Hello Experts,
I'm replicating some couple of VMs that has server installed and I have noticed app consistency error with the VSS services been stopped intermittently.
When I did further investigation by running the VSSadmin.exe list writers, the result showed that the SQL Server writer might be caused of this issue, when it fails it also apparently makes the VSS fails too which then affect the app consistency state of the VM been replicated to Azure

I have restarted the SQL Server Writer, however, this error keeps happening and keeps affecting the replication of the VM to Azure with App consistency error. My question is ,how do I get around this issues and has anybody encountered this problem with SQL Server and ASR replication
