Hello. I have multiple websites up and running. Yesterday I tried to edit one of them - simply adding a picture to the Image folder. Expression Web 4 immediately gave me an error message:

I did check the permissions, and made sure they were all fine. Although every time I go back and recheck - they are all reverted back to "Read-Only..." I have never seen this error message before, and I have tried every remedy that I have found on the internet - deleting the folder, using the FP cleaning program, making a new folder for the website and renaming it without the service.lck file in it, you name it - but NOTHING is working.

I cannot download the website from the FTP server onto my computer as I get the exact same error message, and nothing happens.

I just wanted to add that the message also wanted me to contact my Internet Service Provider (why I do not know as I do not edit my websites live) but I did anyway. They were not able to help as this is not a hosting issue. They did a bunch of tests, like trying to delete the service.lck file and reload the site into EX4, but nothing worked.

After reading your description and issue, There are several error message that revolve around problems with the Service.lck file. This is a file that FrontPage creates regarding read/write permissions. That file can get corrupted, preventing you from accessing your web. Also copying a web, instead of publishing it can cause the Service.lck file to take on "Read Only" attributes, preventing you from opening a file or saving changes.
