We have a few catalog in our build that seems to pull-in extra fonts into the image that we don't actually need. Our software has legacy implementation of displaying the available fonts by simply looking into the windows font folder and display it. So one of the option we are looking at is to remove the font from the image before it is created.

The only thing that doesn't work is that the build system doesn't appear to call some batch files anymore, but this is replaced with custom build actions. If you go to your OS Design properties in VS, you can call any batch file in various build phases. In your case, you probably want to call your filtering batch file from the pre-makeimg phase.
