My copy of Windows Server 2008 Standard came with two keys: a physical key (for use on physical hardware) and a virtual key (for use on a VM). I understand how each key is meant to be used, but am I limited to one -or- the other? Can I use the physical key to set up our production server then use the virtual key to set up a "clone" for my workbench to test new configurations before pushing them to the production server?

Windows Server 2008 Standard, you can only use one or the other.  The only way you can use both at the same time is if the physical is only being used to manage the virtual on the same machine.
