Their is no near mode on xbox kinect so you have to stand farther back. I can not remember the other differences off my head between xbox and windows kinect. The blog at the top of this forum states that v1.6 is "backwards compatible". So you can use v1.5 code with v1.6 kinect sdk (excludes anything before v1 source code acccording to blog).  You cannot use the runtime though with xbox kinect and xbox kinect can only be used for testing/debugging purposes with your kinect. It cannot be used commerically with kinect for windows sdk. Xbox kinect is only to test applications in v1 sdk and above (can use kinect for windows also for testing).
