We are using desktop Project 2010 Professional.  To build a new project a csv file is generated from Deltek's Costpoint database and then imported into Project.  We use fixed work tasks but instead of the tasks rolling into fixed duration summary tasks, the summary tasks are coming into Project as fixed work.  From what I've seen researching this online ... summary tasks are always fixed duration.  Will this effect any scheduling?

that you can't change task type for summary tasks should not have any effect. At least as long as you follow highly recommended advice to NOT assign any resources to summary tasks. Task type has only impact on assignment, which you really should not have there.
