I have gotten this error in Visual Studio 2015 on the changes tab of Team Explorer on two different machines now:

I can't find record of anyone else having this issue. And I cannot find a way to make it go away, nor do I know why it appears. It just started happening one day and now I can no longer use the Changes tab. The other tabs work but for change I have to do everything at the command prompt or in another tool, which is frustrating.
