EW V2 allows you to select whether to use the BOM or not, but V1 doesn't have this feature. One way around this is described here http://www.95isalive.com/expression/index.html

There is no way to get PHP support for V1 either, unfortunately. V2 supports it via Intellisense and lets you view pages via the PHP server.
