I am trying to get color categorization from a SharePoint calendar over to Outlook. Example, a Category of "training" that appears yellow on a SharePoint calendar will be the same, or of a dedicated color, on the Outlook calendar. I have created the overlays and categories on SharePoint, but all I get is a whole lot of appointments on the Calendar of the same color. Any suggestions from those smarter than me?

Hi,

Using the Connect to Outlook feature, we can synchronize a limited set of predefined properties.

To add an Outlook field such as "Categories" to the SharePoint calendar list, use the Add Site Columns command on the Settings menu in the SharePoint calendar list. We can use this feature to make the appearance of the synchronized SharePoint task list more consistent with Outlook.

Please ensure your "Categories" column is added from the existing site columns, because we cannot connect custom SharePoint calendar list columns to Outlook.

1. Go to the Calendar list -> List Settings -> Add from existing site columns (Columns section) -> select "Categories" column, then your Calendar list will have this field.

2. Enter "Categories" values for the events in the calendar list. For example: enter "Red Category" to "Categories" column.


3. Sync to Outlook, you will find the event with "Red Category" value is colored red.


4. You can also create custom categories. In the Outlook, select "Categorize" on the ribbon -> All Categories. In the Color Categories dialog box, select New. Type a name for the category and select a color and optionally, a shortcut key. Then select OK.

For example: create "Meeting" category. Then, the event which "Categories" is "Meeting" will be colored.


Or, you can configure view settings, color appointments based on condition.


Besides, the Calendars Overlay feature is used to create a combined calendar view. It does not save the data from other calendars to the current calendar. The Connect to Outlook feature is used to connect the current calendar to the Outlook, not for the view. So that, the other calendars overlaid to the master calendar will not display in Outlook when connection master calendar to Outlook.
