I use SharePoint 2013 as a tracking form for interactions with customers. Each customer interaction has a different entry within the List/Library section.  If I have multiple interactions with the same customer, I write a new comment in what I named the "notes" section. Every time I enter a new note, it goes into a separate text box and the date/time is added (Append Changes to Existing Text = Enabled).

Hi Duggie- how are you exporting it? I tested on my end and it exports to Excel just fine using the "Export to Excel" icon in the ribbon.

You don't have to worry about changing the append text setting. When you do that, all the info. just goes into the multi-line text column.
